Soulthief: Leveling is for Losers. 2nd Promo post, now with even more promo!

Hey all. I'm getting pretty close to rising stars numbers/pace, and thus am bothering you again. Mods, I think I'm within the 2-a-month rules, but please mod me into the darkness beyond oblivion if I'm not.

Soulthief is an attempt to write a story like you used to get before Royal Road was all about the meta. It's a good, old-fashioned weak-to-strong progression Isekai with save-the-world stakes, like your mother used to make.

Though I like that, it's still not completely generic. The MC's class works like this:

  1. He doesn't level, though everyone else in the universe does.
  2. Instead, he kills monsters, then absorbs their souls.
  3. He can equip one soul at a time to any of his stats. Some do more and some do less in terms of raising his raw numbers, and some provide skills related to their source enemy.

The setting of the first book is mostly an uncanny-valley misinterpretation of Earth in the form of a series of tutorial stages put together in a rush job by a very confused system. Tone wise, this fits pretty strongly into the DCC-and-Discount-Dan realm of things, so if you like those you'll probably like this.

It's always dangerous asking Reddit for followers and ratings, but r/litRPG is a nicer place than most, so I'm taking the risk: If you really do like the work, both of those things would be appreciated.

Remember in 2023, when litRPG authors didn't obsess about writing to match the current meta? Soulthief remembers. It remembers hard.

This is good old-fashioned isekai in which the MC is ripped out of his world and abruptly dumped in another only to find the process left him unable to hold a conventional class. Everyone else raises their stats and gets their abilities via leveling, but Rob is forced to keep up by killing monsters, stealing their souls, and applying them to his stats like he's putting on equipment.

The first book is fully written, and mostly covers Rob trying to survive a mass tutorial while being hunted down by system-universe elites, accompanied by a sentient scooter mount, a sociopathic demon merchant, and the incompetent god who got him into this mess in the first place.

If you are the kind of person who asks why every new novel has to be insanely niche these days, I think this might be the book for you. Any follows/comments/ratings you can spare are much appreciated; I spent a lot more energy on the writing than the marketing, frankly, and I'm feeling the repercussions of that decision.
