What is a good fic for you? As a reader, what do you like to see? I’m not asking about ’angst’ or ‘enemies to lovers’, ships/tropes/genres, etc. I’m asking about what makes a good fic for you? Is it like, the detailed explanation of feelings, long paragraphs about what happens around the characters? Again, not the specific writing or style or 1st/2nd pov. What is something that you click with in a story?
I’m asking because I noticed this thing about myself that sometimes I meet fics where the writing technique is really good. I mean, I read it and I see that the story was built with love and it’s detailed and beautiful in words. In the meaning of technique it should be interesting to read. In the meaning of language it was written in - it was done perfectly. Like, the author really knows how to use the words. But sometimes there’s no much technique in the fic and somehow it just makes sense.
Canon, characters, descriptions - all those don’t matter. I hunt for dynamic. Some authors have it, some don’t. And it’s not about the sequence of events or how fast they change or how many scenes are happening in one chapter. No. This is about inner dynamic. When the character breaks or grows, when it happens step by step. Sometimes I feel like it’s only the outside is changing and the characters stay the same. Sometimes I feel like the characters change too fast - in a matter of seconds. So, it is important for me when the characters are going somewhere, when they’re changing for better or for worse.
What about you? What makes a perfect story for you?
