Buyback Application Help: "You're Not Eligible for PSLF Buyback" on Recon Page
Maybe I'm just doing this wrong?
- 5/1 was my 120th month in qualifying employment.
- Submitted my final ECF on 5/2
- ECF fully processed by StudentAid today on 5/8
- StudentAid shows May 2026 as a qualifying payment
StudentAid says I have 108 months of "qualifying payments" and I have 12 months I want to buyback. I've submitted ECFs, which I can see in StudentAid, covering the full 120-month period.
So,
- I go to https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/pslf-reconsideration
- I click https://studentaid.gov/pslf/reconsideration/borrower-information
- I'm sent to https://studentaid.gov/pslf/reconsideration/request
- I confirm my personal info is correct
- I see 3 boxes for Reconsideration Type: (1) Ineligible Employer, (2) Incorrect Qualifying Payment Count, and (3) PSLF Buyback. I click PSLF Buyback.
I'm greeted with this message:
> You’re Not Eligible for PSLF Buyback You must have 120 months of approved qualifying employment for PSLF Buyback.
> Our records show that you don’t meet this requirement. If you disagree with the qualifying payment count you received, you can submit a reconsideration request
The [Submit] button below this is grayed out and it won't let me click it. I saw other threads with people getting error messages, but it was of a different type. Am I doing something wrong here?
