Norway sends top diplomat to Tehran while executions continue
While Iran continues to execute innocent people on a near-daily basis, Norway’s State Secretary Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik traveled to Tehran yesterday and met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, one of the first high-level Western officials to do so since the current war escalated.
Instead of isolation or pressure over the regime’s brutality, we get meetings that hand legitimacy and reportedly supportive words to the very people running the Islamic Republic.
Coincidence? Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that Norway has raked in roughly $18 billion extra in oil and gas revenues this year alone thanks to the energy price spike from the conflict. Delicious blood money. Yummy, yummy.
The same European countries that constantly lecture the world about human rights and international law have once again shown that principles are flexible when money and energy interests are on the table.
Is there still anyone who actually believes in international law and human rights anymore? Anyone?
