I have searched the internet but wasn’t able to find any concrete answer yet.

My situation: I am from Europe and working remotely as a freelancer. I knew that I wanted to live in Latin America but wasn’t sure yet exactly where. So I tried a few options and as I did an exchange in university in Mexico, I eventually ended up returning to Mexico with a tourist visa because I wanted to see how I liked it before deciding on staying a longer time period.

Now that I've been able to discover how life here is I am decided that I want to stay here for a longer time and I want to do things the right way.

I am already in Mexico right now, specifically in Puerto Vallarta, still on the tourist visa. But I would like to apply for a temporal residency.

I have no problem doing this via a lawyer or an expert. But even there, I couldn't yet find any transparency, and I am afraid of getting involved with the wrong agency that will only make the process more complicated.

I've seen people go to their local Mexican embassy, or at least something like that, outside of Mexico.

Where do I start?
