Hey everyone, I have an investment house which is fully rented out in NYC. I pay property taxes and mortgage interests based on the banks 1098 form. I tried doing tax on my own via FreeTaxUSA and they have recommended me to file using Itemized deductions however, when my tax preparer did it for me, they did standard deductions for both federal and state. Our federal return numbers ended up being the same, but NY state return was lower on his end. I am wondering why he would recommend standard deductions on an investment house that’s rented out when I pay for estate taxes, mortgage interest, expenses to fix the house. My taxes are simple with a W2 and not much else.
