Multiple things making me question Wacom business practices and modern Japanese products
So, there is still no updated version of the Wacom Art Pen or any pen that supports barrel rotation. On top of that, I just learned that the Wacom Movinkpad 11 doesn't support the old Art Pen. While it wasn't a secret that it wouldn't be supported, I made the mistake of googling if it would be supported, saw "yes" given as an answer by Wacom support, but didn't notice that they were talking about the Movink 13 and not the Moveinkpad devices, and trusted my quick scan corroborated by Google AI without digging deeper, so that's on me.
No backwards compatibility on newer devices is one thing, and maybe I would even believe them that with updated EMR technology it wasn't physically possible for them to build in any kind of backward compatibility. However, when you combine that with how Wacom also dropped support for many of their still completely functional tablets (like my old Intuos Pro) forcing driver updates that just tell you "sorry buy a new one", and not making the software for devices they aren't even selling or supporting anymore open-source so people at home could create their own fixes it really started to kill my support for the company.
It wasn't until today that I learned a new thing about my Movinkpad 11, despite it being released a full OS version behind what is out, they are not going to release any OS updates for it and didn't advertise this at all. You have to contact support and ask, "When is the planned release for Android 15?" THEN they tell you that there is no planned release. it came with discontinued support right out of the box. What a feature!
I think I have supported this company longer than I should have. Maybe I'm just going to sell this Art Pen to one of the artists that are constantly on the lookout for them along with just selling and taking a loss on my 11 and finally do the one thing I said I would never do, and get an iPad. Apple will certainly rip me off too, but at least the pro pencil comes with barrel rotation. Or hell, maybe I will go full Luddite and just go back to oil painting.
I got burned on the Tourbox elite when they said they were going to release android support on it, then said "just kidding!" and made a separate more expensive identical product you had to buy. Clip Studio doesn't sell an indefinite license for their Android software and implemented a scummy subscription model for their supposedly perpetual licenses, and Wacom did all of this. WTF Japan?
Is anyone else sick of this, or am I just grumpy because I learned two negative things about my new toy in a single day? I'm open to being wrong.
