Avoiding iPad drain

Had an interesting problem today. My iPad Pro battery isn’t as good as what it once was, so the last thing I want is for the SP-404 MkII to drain it as well - but initially I couldn’t figure out how to stop the iPad always powering the SP, with the SP ignoring its own batteries.

Finally got it sorted - the trick was to use a USB-C to USB-A hub, then a USB-A->USB-C cable to the 404.

USB-A is fine for MIDI and audio, but can’t carry enough power for the SP-404. As a result, the 404 falls back to internal batteries, which is exactly what I want.

Getting ONLY the ducked, sidechained sound

I see some people are under the misapprehension that with the new side chaining feature, you cannot get *only* the effected (ducked) sound.

You can do it quite easily:

- Set DRY routing to BUS3, have no effect on BUS1 and put ISOLATOR on BUS2 with all three knobs turned to minimum.

- Route the pads you want sidechained (the TARGET) to DRY

- Route the pads that provides the sidechain (the SOURCE) to BUS1

- Adjust settings to taste

There’s probably some other combinations that work as well.

Hope this proves useful to someone.
