my main gripe with the new singles
so… i’ve sat with Revenant for a bit and listened to it a few times to see if my initial feelings toward the song would shift and they really haven’t. it suffers from the same issue that Gifted Every Strength had: the production.
all the songs on ILIIAITE blew me away the first time i heard them. the overall sound of the album was gritty, distorted, and utterly unique in the modern metal scene. the two new singles are just…. loud.
like REALLY FUCKING loud.
both the singles are so over-compressed it almost hurts to listen through either of the songs in their entirety which is something i could look past if it wasn’t for the fact that they lack any of the super enchanting qualities that made ILIIATE so interesting to listen to.
every band in modern metal is doing the exact same thing right now production-wise; the songs are loud as fuck and that’s about all i can say about them.
regardless of all this, i’m still super excited for the album. all the members of the band have improved a ton since the last album, especially Kadeem and Erik’s vocals.
i’m curious about what y’all have to say.
