Snowboarder looking to get into e-skating, advice on board choice?
Hey everyone! Snowboarder here looking to get into e-skating for the off-season and would love some advice.
A bit about me:
- 23 years old
- 6'1", 150-160lb
- In Canada
- Upper intermediate to low-mid advanced snowboarder
- Ride a Burton Counterbalance 154 and Goodcompany 155 (if that matters)
I've been doing some research and I'm leaning toward a longboard-style deckwith a gear drive 2WDsetup for the responsive feel and low maintenance. The Meepo Hurricane keeps coming up as a strong option for my riding style. I have ‘buy it nice or buy it twice’ mindset so I don’t mind spending a bit as long as it’ll be good for a while but also not looking to spend thousands if it can be helped. I don’t think I’ll do much off road stuff but it would be nice to be able to if needed but not something I’m actively looking to do right now.
A few questions:
- Is gear drive 2WD the right call for someone like me?
- Anything a snowboarder specifically should know before getting on an e-skate for the first time?
- Is the Meepo Hurricane still the move in 2026 or is there something better at that price point?
Already have wrist guards, knee pads, butt pad, and helmets sorted (from snowboarding, the only thing I’m a bit concerned about not being a great fit is the helmet, Smith rodeo MIPS, which is the least insulating helmet I have) Will be ordering slide gloves. Thanks in advance!
