JOB SCAM Industries' Finest LLC -- real company, fake job
This was interesting. The job for a Copywriter was posted on Linkedin. You may think that sort of legitimates a job posting, but it doesn't; Linkedin auto-creates an entry for a company that posts an opening.
Anyway, unlike most fake jobs, this one was NOT too good to be true. It was pretty crummy -- part-time, low pay. I looked at their website and yeah, they could use a Copywriter or an editor.
Anyway, I apply through Linkedin and they express interest. It all comes to a shuddering halt for me when they "hire" me and tell me I juuuuuust have to do this one little thing -- pay in advance for the laptop, printer, and smartphone they'll be sending me to do the work, which I'll totally be able to keep once the contract is over. LOL since when does a remote job require a printer anyway? And since when does a low-paying part-time temp job provide any equipment at all? I then realized the email address was kind of spoofy-looking.
I searched high and low to call the company to let them know what was happening, and they don't list a phone number even in public filings. This actually is plausible for a parts company that doesn't want to be bothered by customer calls and handle everything online instead.
Well-chosen, scammers! A company that obviously needs the service requested and leaves almost no way to confirm the job opening. I noticed 26 people applied. I wonder how they fared.
