Let's talk about Chapter 233

Hello there, friends!

Hope you're all doing great!

And with a new week, we got a new chapter!

So it's that time again for me to summarize the chapter, analyze it a bit, think too much on it, and leave the comments for you all to discuss.

So, without further ado, let's get on with the summary!

  • The chapter starts back with Momo and Jiji, while the latter is trapped in the mouth of a Brachiosaurus.
  • Momo looks at what's happening, questioning if it's part of the exhibit, only to turn around and notice everybody has disappeared, recalling how the same happened in the Dris/Serpo fight.
  • She then notices how every dinosaur skeleton starts regaining muscle and skin, turning back into regular dinosaurs.
  • She then makes a run for it while every dinosaur goes back to being alive.
  • We then cut back to Okarun and Aira in front of a seal-man.
  • Aira comments on how unfortunate for that to have interrupted such a moment, when suddenly the leader of the Dragon Knights presents himself and his people, announcing that they're Vlad's guards and that they're here for their power.
  • Aira asks if they're the ones that have been targeting them, to which the leader says that the other knights are just ruffians and that if they submit and accept defeat, they'll spare them.
  • Aira says that she won't give up easily, and that's when the leader clarifies that they're not after her powers, but for Okarun's. More specifically, they're after Turbo Granny's powers, thinking Okarun still has them.
  • Aira and Okarun try to explain that he doesn't have TG's powers, but the leader says that he still has them because they know he's a liar.
  • The leader then says that he doesn't like to fight, but he will if he must, which makes Aira prepare herself for battle, even when Okarun still exclaims that he doesn't have powers.
  • Suddenly, Aira and Okarun's feet slip, forcing them to fall forward. Okarun notices with his hand that the floor has suddenly gotten slippery.
  • They then notice that the seal-man is licking the floor, concluding that this must be his power. The seal-man then transforms back into just being a seal and shoots himself like a torpedo to tumble both of them, ending the Chapter.

Well, that was an interesting chapter. Rather short too.

So, let's talk about some of the things the chapter gave us.

For starters, going back to Momo just confirmed the use of Empty Space for them. We don't know if there are small Empty Spaces used for each group or one giant one for all of them. I lean on the idea that this is one big Empty Space with multiple power users around the park in search of Okarun and the gang. The leader, most likely, went for Okarun himself and left specific minions stationed in different places in order to capture the others.

The Seal-Man was most likely the one who spotted Okarun, and once he showed himself, it made the leader spring into the scene.

It is interesting to me how prideful the leader is. Even in his noble way of introducing himself and his knights, he does boast his allegiance to Vlad as his guards, he calls the other knights that attacked the dandagang "just ruffians", and even in the introduction of the amusement park, when we first saw the knights, he states that he doesn't want CSG to get all the glory. Pride may be his undoing, especially against Aira, who always called herself noble when using her powers.

Now, Momo running is interesting. Maybe her first instinct was to go for Okarun, since she's not aware of Evil Eye in Jiji. Do remember that she wasn't able to perceive the supernatural anymore since her amnesia up until the Dris/Serpo fight. So she probably made a run to the exit to find Okarun to help Jiji because, in her mind, he's the only capable one.

I think she'll run into Peeny-Weenie before. Now, with her memories of him gone, the interaction will be very interesting. We don't know if Vamola or others talked to him about Momo's amnesia (most likely they didn't), so he'll maybe say to Momo who he is, only for her to be like, "Who are you?" And it'll be more interesting once he transforms to fight while Momo keeps Chiquitita safe. She'll see that he's an alien and maybe confuse him for an enemy. After all, the only aliens she remembers tried to kill her and Okarun.

As for the other side of the fight, it'll be an uphill battle for only Aira and Okarun. With the Seal-Man making the floor slippery, and the leader ready to attack with giant scissors, Aira is the most powerful here, with Okarun only able to use the Oni club.

Also, the fact that they're after TG's powers specifically caught my attention. CSG is the only one who knows the truth about Okarun after he, as Sanjome, tried to make him admit defeat. I'd go on a limb and say that this is false intel he fed to his "allies" because he knows the powers returned to TG. I think CSG is trying to get the kids into danger to get TG out of hiding. It's that or that he knows that Okarun has other powers. Powers that may be linked to the Oni club.

I felt early on the Kozuka Knives arc that Okarun's sudden change in physique and newfound amazing physical prowess was a bit of a setup. It could be chalked up to Okarun's body adapting to TG's powers over time, but even he stated that he relied too much on TG's powers during the last fights in Danmara. So for him to now be physically gifted is a bit odd. Maybe it all links back to that.

Now, I do wonder how those scissors will come into play. They will cut something, no doubt about it. The question is what. Will it affect the body, cutting it into pieces without fatally wounding? Or will it be a "It can cut through anything!" type of weapon? I guess time will tell.

As for the Seal-Man's abilities, I think it can be just that. The water flea line can be a sort of chant in order to make the powers be more potent or even to activate, like a prerequisite. It would be a first, but I wouldn't rule it out, since he's repeating it so much.

Since there are many Dragon Knights around, and they look very zombie-like, I wonder if Aira and Okarun will get some backup in the form of Vamola and, maybe, Kinta. After all, we haven't seen them after Vamola entered the barbershop to check on Kinta. We're still in Schrodinger's Kinta. He's both fine with a sick hairdo and chopped up into pieces. So it'll be a while until we see the final result. I'm willing to bet we'll learn at the volume ender in 237.

And as a last topic on my end, I do like that the leader mentioned Vlad out loud to Aira and Okarun. It makes sense, since they will have a name to follow now, especially when Seiko and TG come back and mention what they learned from the Izumo Taisha priests.

We have an interesting set of chapters ahead, friends. One fight will most likely end or be near its conclusion around 237 (the volume ender) or before. So we have to keep an eye on that. My prediction is that the current debacle will, hopefully, find its resolution either in the next volume.

Well, that's about it for me.

See you all in the comments to discuss!

Hello, guys!

Finally, I can do one of these posts again!

For those of you who have recently caught up on the manga and haven't seen one of my posts, these posts are just me summarizing the latest chapter, offering some thoughts on it, trying to gauge how it might unfold, failing miserably, and letting you all discuss in the comments!

Now, let's get on with the summary:

  • The chapter opens with Chiquita (now called Chiqui-taro) in his human form, excited about the Brachiosaurus in the dinosaur exhibit.
  • We then see Peeny-Weenie in human form, accompanied by Mrs. Tamiko, who follows after Chiquitita. He explains that Chiquitita doesn't go outside often and that this is the first time he sees him really enjoying himself.
  • Mrs. Tamiko mentions that Peeny-Weenie got the tickets from an acquaintance, and asks what he did with the remaining tickets, only for him to say that he gave them to Vamola.
  • We then cut to a flashback of Vamola asking about her suit to Peeny-Weenie, for him to reply that it's done. She asks for recommendations for places for a date. He asks if she's in love with someone, and she eagerly says yes and names everyone in the gang (which doesn't help answer his question).
  • He asks her if she may need tickets for the amusement park, ending the flashback. Mrs. Tamiko asks him if Vamola is in love with someone, to which he answers that he's not sure. She then mentions that it is possible that they're here too, just as Momo and Jiji pass by them.
  • We then cut to Vamola prior to going back to Kinta, asking for some Konnyaku to the Takoyaki stand cook, only now we have a clear view that it is a Serpo in human disguise. Vamola asks for another one before we see from a distance how she approaches the barbershop where Kinta was last seen.
  • We then cut one more time, this time to Okarun and Aira after a show with seals ended.
  • Aira asks Okarun if he's OK, to which he tries to play it cool and says that he's fine and that the seals were rather cute.
  • Aira mentions how seeing "them" was a surprise, referring to Momo and Jiji. She then wonders out loud if they are a thing. Okarun, clearly distressed about it, says that she might not be wrong about that.
  • Okarun starts to blame himself for how things unfolded, but is interrupted by Aira putting her hand over his and saying that they should become a couple.
  • As Aira leans towards Okarun for a kiss, a voice interrupts them while saying "The heart of a water flea," coming from a seal.
  • As the seal keeps talking, its head starts to tear open, revealing a humanoid-looking person coming from inside the seal and continuing the sentence that even if he looks like a sea creature, his heart is still that of a water flea.

And that's the end of the chapter.

I'd like to start with saying this: one of the GOATs is back! Peeny-Weenie is back!!!

It was cute to see him and Chiquitita once more. I do wonder if he'll try to help Jiji and Momo once he notices the Brachiosaurus trying to eat Jiji. Momo won't immediately trust him, but maybe if she sees that Jiji does, she'll trust him a bit more. Although seeing him take off his human disguise would probably freak her out at first. There's also the probability that she remembers the name Peeny-Weenie, since Okarun mentioned him in chapter 214 when talking about aliens (well, he said Mr. Peeny, but there's a slight chance still).

As for the Serpo, I know we all dismissed that it was Rokuro because of the lack of scars on his face. But on closer look, I'm almost certain that it is Rokuro. The Serpos in human disguise have smaller and fully black eyes (check Chapter 216 for the comparison). Meanwhile, Rokuro has clear irises, and the close-up panel is similar to the ones done for the Space Globalist arc when he helped Momo hide. It would make sense for Rokuro to find a new job that pays better than the salary he had as a konbini clerk.

Then we have Aira and Okarun. It is interesting how she wonders if Momo and Jiji are in a relationship instead of coming to the conclusion that they are. Given how surprised all of them were, it doesn't surprise me that she questions if they are already a thing or they're just testing it.

As for her advances, I think it was inevitable that if he wasn't going to ask her directly, Aira would take the reins and ask him herself. And not even asking, she's fully stating it. "Let's you and I be a couple, too". The girl is not fooling around. Now, if Tatsu-sensei is working towards a rejection that needed to happen way before, I think the fight is either going to lean into actions speaking louder and make Aira notice Okarun's real feelings through his actions, or for him to be direct for once and let Aira know what he feels for Momo. I don't think Tatsu-sensei is willing to keep throwing the relationship between Momo and Okarun into the garbage, or at least not forever.

I think this arc is supposed to feel like everything is just wrong, that it's all going south, and that things are not OK. It is most likely on purpose. To make the reader feel that they're reaching the worst possible scenario, given how much terrain the villains are getting a hold of. But there are still many allies that can help them. The sorcerer's association still has to make its presence felt. TG's yokai allies already started helping when they saved Rin and Kouki from Red Baron's associates. The Izumo-Taisha priests sent someone, and now Peeny-Weenie returned. Many others we've seen in the past will most likely show up to help, too.

I think we have good fights moving forward with lots of emotions in the air after these last couple of chapters. This particular new guy looks really interesting. It's like a sort of shapeshifter. Someone mentioned a Selkie, which makes sense, considering the use of the word water flea. I'm going to quote my good friend u/Ayase-Momo with something she said about this guy that I found interesting.

>So the word for water flea in Japanese is ミジンコ (mijinko), in kanji it can be written as 微塵子 where 微塵(ミジン) means something like infinitesimally small particles...
...Water fleas are often considered as something weak and insignificant. So sometimes people compare themselves with water flea in a self-deprecation way.
So「心はミジンコなんだよ」 is like comparing one's heart with something small, insignificant and weak which could be what the metaphor is.

Maybe this is a guy who is really powerful with a huge case of impostor syndrome. We still need to see what type of power he has or what he's capable of doing, same for learning what's going on with Jiji and Momo, as well as the big question: What does Kinta's new hairdo look like?

There's also something another friend of mine from irl told me that made a bit of sense to me. He said to me that Momo losing her memories made her similar to Alice's ending, because Alice wakes up from a dream. At first, I thought he was just fooling around. It was not the exact same. But then I was "wait, dreams are easily forgotten, and a part of that past still lingers in Momo as underlying feelings, like remnants of a dream". Then I thought about how Zuma lost the connection to Futa, the Gretel to his Hansel. What if these are lasting effects from getting their innate yokai powers stolen? We've only seen one instance of powers being stolen, but it was to someone who was granted one by a Kozuka Knife in the first place. If my theory is correct, Rin's voice is the logical thing to lose, given how she lost Mai, and Kouki may be in an endless deep sleep like Snow White.

The question now would be: What happens to the user of Pinocchio if they get their powers stolen?

Well, that's another topic for another day.

Look, all in all, I like where we're going because I'm hopeful. I'm not happy with the state of Momokarun, but if I know something, it is to cope (if you're a JJK fan, and you see my profile picture, you know that my mind has been high on copium for the last couple of years).

Anyways, that'll be all on my end. I hope you all can come up with more stuff that can happen and some crazy theories. I may not comment a lot on other posts, but I read most theories when I can, as well as trying to reply to most comments here.

Well, see you all around, friends!!!

Hey there, friends!

It's been a while, due to the big break and, well, life.

I wanted to share my latest purchase. This time, instead of a figure, I got myself a Momo plushie!!!

It's from Good Smile Company, the same ones that make the Figma and Nendoroid figures. They also make Aira and Granny Seiko plushies, as far as I'm aware.

Next week, we have a new chapter, so I'll be back with the regular chapter post that I have been doing for a year.

That's it for me.

See you around, friends!
