Hello ADHDames!
I’m in a bit of a situation at work and thought I’d crowdsource some advice. I do in home help and assistance to the disabled, and my current task is to help a very kind lady who is struggling to get tasks done or even started (we’ve all been there). While I can do the work for her, I don’t have time to do it every day, and in the long run it’s better for her to do it for herself (and she is capable, it’s just very clearly overwhelming for her to get going).
So if you were in a situation where someone could come to your house for max 20 minutes a day and get things going for you, what would help you out with the tasks you struggle with?
Things I’ve tried:
- generally offering help (she always declines because she doesn’t want to bother me)
- asking about when the last time she did something (she says in the last day, but it’s not finished)
- offering to do specific tasks (some success! I offered to start laundry for her and she had dried the load I started and started a new one).
Any advice or suggestions welcome! This is my job, I am paid to do it, and I am generally open and flexible. I am pretty sure that once I get a routine going with her, she’ll be able to pick it up and keep going on her own.
