Seeing a significant reduction in IgE blood test results after two years on Dupixent for EoE
I’m 32M and I’ve been dealing with food allergies my entire life, as well as my sister.
We both had a particularly terrible private practice allergist growing up who interpreted every positive skin test result as fact and insisted we fully avoid that food. My parents, not knowing any better, did so. Up until I was about 19-years-old, I had a laundry list of “allergies.”
Now, I’m definitely allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, sesame, pea, chickpea, and lentil. All of which, I’ve had some form of a reaction to ranging from anaphylaxis to GI upset.
After dealing with sudden intense bouts of acid reflux and dysphagia, and undergoing two endoscopies, I was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis, or EoE. I started taking prefilled Dupixent pens to treat it. Dupixent completely resolves my EoE symptoms and I have no side effects, but the injections can sometimes hurt like hell!
Now, two years after being on weekly Dupixent, all of the foods I am avoiding have seen a significant reduction in their IgE blood test results.
Walnut: 15.1 kU/L; now 3.21 kU/L
Almond: 2.04 kU/L; now 0.43 kU/L
Brazil nut: 1.13; now 0.28
Cashew: 3.24; now 0.74
Pecan: 4.69: now 1.11
Pea: 6.58; now 1.85
Peanut: 4.95; now 1.15
Egg white: 5.09; now 0.99
Sesame seed: 9.99; now 2.92
Egg yolk: 3.03; now 0.77
Hazelnut: 8.81; now 1.60
Lentil: 7.86; now 1.81
I have skin testing scheduled for Tuesday and I’m anxious to see how things progress. I’m cautiously optimistic that the foods I’m avoiding will now be more accessible while I’m on dupixent.
