House details: Wood-frame, bought 4.5 yrs ago (clean inspection). Did Taurus SC trench barrier 3 yrs ago after first swarmers/wing pile. Woody area.
Annual issue (spring, pre-rainy): Swarmers by porch lights outside + indoors in multiple spots—unused guest room (exterior wall), bathroom exhaust fan, now bedroom headboard (exterior wall w/ night light). 2-3 at a time, no mud tubes/frass/hollow wood/bubbling paint despite checking. I can check attic under blown insulation.
DIY background: Handled original trench successfully (dying termite after). Have Bifen. Don’t want pro inspection if avoidable—hate getting ripped off.
Questions:
- Formosan or native subterranean? (appear larger, aggressive swarmers)
- Just lights-attracted wanderers, or established colony? (yearly same time/rooms)
- Ignore if no damage visible? (insurance won’t cover)
- What’s realistic risk to wood home at this point? I’m quite busy to fully tackle this on my own.
Annual stress cycle—need perspective before acting. Pics/specimens available.
TL;DR: Recurring spring indoor swarmers (3 rooms), clean visual inspection. Real problem or seasonal annoyance?
