Snapped this stud bolt trying to put on my new water pump on a VW T4 I need the van running as soon as possible so trying to think of a solution without needing to wait for a direct replacement to come.

Am I being stupid or can I buy a high tensile set screw, saw off the end and use a nut screwed down it to secure the water pump? Then the alternator goes on the outer thread as usual.

I’d use two nuts tightened together on it as an anchor to then screw it into the engine block securely first.

Is this a bad idea?
