How big of an issue are splints when looking to buy?

I’m nowhere near ready, need to see what the next couple of years have in store as there’s a chance I may need to go abroad for an apprenticeship, and I can’t afford full livery while also living abroad.

I am considering a thoroughbred and am more than aware of the majority of issues OTTBs come with, but one that keeps recurring that I don’t know a lot about is splints.

With my own horse, I would be looking at low level show jumping, possibly eventing if I can get a support team and off-road wheelchair together (can’t walk the course in a non off road chair).
But because I don’t know a lot about splints, I have no idea how big a red flag this would be for longevity.

Yes I’m aware there’s google, but AI has made a lot of the information inaccurate or not trustworthy.
