Question: New to tats, what is the etiquette or usual ‘procedure’ to approaching an artist?
I’ve heard from people that getting a tat done is some work and due to numerous reasons. I’ve also heard people talk about tattoo artist issues and vice versa with clients, so I just want to not be a clueless nightmare client.
I’m looking to get my first done, just something small and probably my only; I have attached a photo of what I’d like done, but with another set of numerals.
Is there a certain way I should do it? I know I should research artists and call the location to book with the artist specifically. However, I’m still blurry on a lot.
- Do I tell them it’s my first time, and when (booking, when I reach, etc.)?
- Am I able to send them a picture when I book, or do they have to tell me themselves?
- I know fine lines are an issue over time due to the ink spreading, is 3in enough to have it look decent in 10 years time? What is the suggested size if not?
- Is their etiquette for how I speak, what I ask for, phones, headphones, etc.?
- Do they numb for smaller tattoos like this?
- What do I look for when finding an artist?
- I feel like there’s stuff I don’t know and need to know so if there is, what are they? Or any tips? I’m starting from square one so anything is appreciated, even if it seems like something everyone may know.
I’m just looking for any answers. I’m a nervous wreck & trying not to be a problem.
