Debt in collections
I was in a bad DV situation from 17 through 20. We unfortunately shared an apartment together, I broke the lease early as I filed charges against him and left with our baby. Years later I saw they permitted him to STAY at that apartment after my leaving, and he got sued by them (I was never served was not named in lawsuit). Anyways, he owes them over $10000 and I started getting collection calls asking about him, and the debt is on my credit report. I have tried to dispute it to no avail, my 720 credit score is down to the low 600s, I’m a single mom I worked and graduated college. I am finally able to start living again, and my credit is so bad and there is nothing I can do about it. Help me please I need advice, I am also NOT from the states I am a dual citizen I have no idea how any of this shit works. I can not keep dealing with his bs it’s like he can still abuse me financially years later, I want out. I have one credit card with a balance of 800, I don’t have any outstanding other debt, I have a student loan totaling $2000- I try to be as good with my money as I can I just don’t understand how this is allowed.
