Someone’s post here about the Bic Cristal pens inspired me to share one of my all time favorite “boring” pens, the Pilot BP-S aka the “Better Ballpoint”
I discovered these in the late 80s in high school (even though I believe they have been around since the 1970s) and they quickly became my daily driver for class and everything else. Went through 3 of them in one semester of college taking notes in a psych class and always kept a couple extras around just because.
I largely moved away from them in the 90s when gel pens became a thing but still had one or two that I used from time to time.
About 5 years ago when my wife and I bought our new house, I discovered a blue one in a box of stuff while moving. I hadn’t looked through in at least 20 years - mostly college notes, old concert tickets etc. Despite having been in this plastic tub in a storage closet which was not climate controlled, it still wrote perfectly fine and still does. There were a couple of other pens in this box too and the Pilot was in fact the ONLY one that still wrote at all!
I don’t see them here in the US that often anymore, but we recently went to Italy and I found a bookstore in Florence that sold them - so I had to pick up these two for old time’s sake haha. I mentioned to the sales clerk that these were an old favorite and he said they sell quite a few of them every week so I guess I’m not alone in appreciating these lol
Anyway, just wanted to give this baby a shout out because it may be blah and boring but it’s a trooper!
Anybody else have a fan of these?
