Hi everyone,
I’ve been dealing with a persistent issue on my MacBook Pro and I’m trying to understand if this is normal or if something is wrong.
Every time I turn on my Mac, the fans ramp up almost immediately and it starts getting hot — even when I’m not running any heavy applications.
What’s strange is that sometimes, when I check Activity Monitor, there’s nothing obviously using a lot of CPU, and yet the fans are still spinning very loudly.
Other times, I do see processes like corespeechd or sysmond using a lot of CPU, but that’s not always the case — the overheating/fan issue also happens without them.
Additionally:
- When I use Google Meet with the camera on, CPU usage increases significantly and the fans go full speed
- The system often feels like it’s under load even during simple tasks
What I’ve already tried:
- Disabled Siri
- Turned off Dictation
- Removed OBS Studio and BlackHole (audio driver)
- Checked microphone permissions
- Closed background apps
The audio issue I had is now fixed, but the fan/overheating issue persists — especially right after startup.
My questions:
- Is it normal for a MacBook to ramp up fans on startup even with low CPU usage?
- Could this be related to background system processes not showing clearly in Activity Monitor?
- Any idea what else could be causing this behavior?
Any help or insight would be really appreciated.
