So long story long - I inherited some private stock from my grandfather a few years ago in a mining company(Company A). At the time, I was told by the company that the stocks had a arbitrary value assigned but that the company was non operational. Then just over a year ago it was proposed to transfer all assets to another company, which would in turn provide stocks of the operational and publicly traded company(Company B) to all share holders with the caveat that those shares could not be sold for 2 years. The stocks would be transfered at a rate of 5:1
Fast forward a year and half, and while the assets (land and permits) are presumably being utilized, no stocks have been issued, due to the difficulty they are having locating all shareholders or descendents of Company A.
My question is, can the stocks that I still physically hold and are registered to me be sold, since they are presumably active? Then the new owner can simply await the transfer, or do I have to wait not only until new stocks are issued but the additional 2 years from issuance?
