▲ 2 r/SOAS

I've been offered by Cardiff, reading, Aston and SOAS. I thought of either putting down Cardiff firm and reading insurance or SOAS insurance. Or should I jump the boat and put SOAS as insurance?

Context: I applied for law and knowing that most unis especially the weaker ones are going into clearing recently I thought I take my shot at better unis (especially considering my strong personal statement) knowing that I can fall back on clearing if I need to.

But I don't understand why their asking for something which is three grades higher than what I'm predicted.

Is it cuz of my PS and as a result they think I'm a good candidate in that non-academic regard? Then if so why do they want such high grades from me 😭

Reading my back up reduced their offer by two grades cuz of my PS which makes sense.

Is it that their hoping that I might get high grades? If so why didn't they reject me and let me know that clearing is an option instead of potentially getting my hopes high??

Or is it something more cynical like quotas?

Cuz I've received other similar offers from good unis as well however only two grades above.

Someone plz explain this to me as I need to know whether it's worth it to firm Cardiff
