Hello everyone. Currently student looking for info on DCI. I have aged out (went to college later in life) so I cannot join as a player. I was wondering if there is a way to be on a staff or even just observe / volunteer a few days during the summer. As I am off in the summer it would be nice to get different takes on things to do to help students learn at a higher level too. Any suggestions on volunteering experience or ways to just learn from some of the best.

Looking to build resume as well with volunteer hours. Thank you guys in advance for any help!

Hello everyone. I currently teaching history through alt cert education. Basic background info: I got my degree in corrections because to get my education i knew I would have to work full time. While working at the sheriff office I got the benefit of getting a degree at discounted price, hence the corrections degree. Once I graduated I immediately went into an alt cert program because I knew I wanted to teach. Have been teaching Middle school history for 4 years.

I wanted to major in music education with a focus on percussion. I played in orchestra and marching band / concert band in high school and really would've enjoyed that route. Unfortunately with no family support and lack of financial aid when I applied, that is what led me to the decision above.

Now I feel at a cross road. I want to teach music and constantly have best relationships with my students currently in band. I miss it so much. I miss marching and more importantly playing ensemble.. all of it. I wish I could teach it and know I would be good at it. I am good at teaching now and have been given praise as far as teaching goes.

I am not sure what to do to get into it at all. I could ask my current Middle school band teachers if they need a percussion tech and maybe help out that way? I really do not know. What I do know is I see my old peers still in the percussion school at my local university and it hurts my heart daily to not be able to play and grow anymore as a percussionist or be able to teach what I am passionate about. I worry about student loan debt since I already have a good amount of it as is I know as teachers... it's hard for us as is to pay them back.
