While subbing I often see kids who have no snack. In our district the parent must provide the snack. So these kids just sit there hungry while the entire rest of the class eats.

Additionally on Fridays if a parents provides money their kid can buy ice cream. So kids whose parents don’t do this, can’t participate. It’s a hard pill to swallow for a kid elementary age to have to watch everyone else eat ice cream but themselves because they have a struggling parent.

But here we are teacher appreciation week and I cannot get over how many thousands of dollars are being spent this week by the PTA to for elaborate Teacher lunches, breakfast, t-shirts etc….

As a parent myself. I donated pretty heavily this year to the PTA but this will be the last. I’ll celebrate my kids teacher myself and my extra $’s are going to real causes.

Help, I’ve been subbing for around a year now but I’m have a big problem when dropping my elementary class off at one particular special.

This “specials” teacher will march out into the hall and say. “You wouldn’t act this way for so and so”. “You are too loud?!” On and on - It’s so humiliating. I’m sure she’s not - but It feels like she’s purposely trying to cut me down.

All the while up until then, I myself am thinking the class is doing great. I have them lined up waiting. Playing quiet mouse. Yes, there are always a few making small chatter and the entire group is not perfectly quiet. But is that really reality for elementary? If it is, how are you doing it? Please help.

The teacher has me so on edge I don’t really feel like going back.
