I'm looking to buy my first car My situation is as follows:

Driving to work.4 times a week which is a 40 mile round trip and doing long distance trips about once a month. so in total will probably be driving 12 000 miles per year.

My priority is low operation costs, so cheap insurance, fuel efficient and reliable to avoid repair costs.

The budget I had in mind was about £6k.

Could you please advice on whether this is a realistic budget and how I can start about researching cars that balance out my requirements well. I'm not well informed in cars so would appreciate any help.
