My vet wants me to give my cat 400mg in 12 hours before his next appointment and he's only 9lbs. Is this concerning or no?

I adopted my cat from a shelter about a month ago. He went in for his first vet visit right after I adopted him. Today was only his second visit at the vet and I couldn't go back with him. He was supposed to get a vaccine and bloodwork with the technicians. Apparently he flipped out. They want me to give him 4ml of 50mg/ml gabapentin 12 hours and 2 hours before the next visit. This seems like a lot to me but maybe I'm just too new to cat parenting.
