I was born in Spain, but one of my parents is American. I didn’t have a social security number until recently, but I still live in Spain. I don’t know what to do with my investments
Hi! The thing is that I was born with the right to be a US-Person, even though I’ve never lived there. I did have my passport done but I’ve just obtained my SSN. I’m young and had some minor investments in DeGiro and MyInvestor. When I updated my status in DeGiro as a US Person I was forced to close my account. I was then recommended to use IBKR, and I’m avoiding european ETFs fue to the PFIC I’ve been reading about. However, I can’t purchase american ETF because there is no KID documentation in place and IBKR doesn’t allow you to trade. I’d like to have a considerable amount of my budget in ETFs or similar that track main indexes of the US, Europe, Emerging… and I don’t think replicating with individual stocks is achievable. As I still live in Spain I want my broker to be “friendly” with the spanish tax system, and I’m not sure if american broker would fulfill this. I’m pretty lost, I still have an indexed prepared portfolio in MyInvestor, should I close it? Use it to achieve this diversification even if PFIC can be a pain? Is an american broker a wise idea (I don’t have a US address)? Thanks!!!!
