Emotional continuity feels more important to me than narrative continuity lately

Been experimenting with montage-driven editing using footage from completely unrelated shoots, and I’m realizing viewers often emotionally connect scenes long before they logically connect them.

Things like:

  • gaze direction
  • rhythm
  • repeated movement
  • environmental texture
  • color temperature

seem to create their own subconscious continuity.

At some point it starts feeling less like storytelling and more like memory association.

I'm curious to know if any of you can relate to this. I would love to discuss and explore.
