▲ 4 r/ACT

Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice on improving my ACT score.

For context, my school’s average is about a 19, and this was my first time taking the ACT. My biggest issue was timing across all sections. I especially struggled with staying focused during the Reading and Science sections under time pressure.

I’m aiming for a 30+ within the next 2–3 months. I feel like that’s possible since timing (not content) was my main challenge.

For the writing section, I honestly don’t know how I got a 6 because I didn’t write much, and my school didn’t tell us we’d be taking it.

I’m also a first-generation, low-income student, so I’m specifically looking for free (or very low-cost) resources, study plans, or prep methods that actually worked for you.

If anyone has significantly improved their score—especially with timing—what helped you the most?

Thank you so much!!
