Reductio Ad Absurdium is a form of proof which shows the flaw in an argument by introducing a logically absurd conclusion.
One classic example for Reductio Ad Absurdium is Diogenes responding to Plato's claim that man is a featherless biped by presenting a plucked chicken and declaring "Behold, a man".
I would consider this argument a strawman of Plato's position because Plato was clearly never arguing that plucked chickens should be considered men. Plato was arguing that men should be considered bipeds who naturally do not have feathers.
On this basis I think there is no fundamental distinction between Reductio Ad Absurdium and strawman arguments, and that people primarily distinguish between the two based on whether or not they think the logical absurdity introduced shows a logical flaw well or not.
