In my apartment complex, we have some neighbours that moved in a few months ago and ever since they moved in, our building smells constantly of marijuana. It never really bothered me because it is mostly the hallways, but their balcony is right next to mine, and now with the warm weather, I leave my balcony door open and they smoke weed everyday multiple times a day and it enters into my apartment and makes the whole place reek. I wfh and I enjoy getting fresh air since I can’t be outside a lot, but now I can’t leave my windows open due to the smell of marijuana.
I hate to complain and I have waited about a month of this happening daily hoping it would stop or someone else would complain, but it is still happening. Today, I finally decided to say something to building management after being sick and trying to get some fresh air and instead having my entire apartment smell like weed. I let them know that I was hoping it wouldn’t keep happening and that I hate to complain, but it is a constant issue. I feel bad for doing that, but I think that it was the right thing to do. I’m sure that I can’t be the only one that has been impacted by it. Management has sent out notices about it to everyone before.
Was that the right approach or what would be the best thing to do? I don’t talk to these neighbours and don’t feel comfortable confronting them directly.
