A Warning to Y24s

Hmmm, where should I begin? First of all, I have something to say to Y24s: never, ever do anything to satisfy your personal ego in front of this guy (he isn't retard like other chemical engineering profs). Never ever try to cheat in this course, even if you're getting a D (it's better than getting an F). As they say, "He's the devil. You know, he is - he is smarter than you, he is luckier than you. Whatever whatever you think is supposed to happen I'm telling you, the exact reverse opposite of that is gonna happen."

He's a perfect example of a sadistic person; he really gets happy when he sees the look on your faces. In this course, 20% of the grade was dedicated to surprise quizzes, and the quizzes were only taken when the attendance was low. This one time, class started at 8:00 AM and he saw a lot of empty seats, so he wrote down a question. By 8:05 AM people arrived, and then he said - his exact words - "Bhak yar, launde aagye." Somehow, he despised our batch more than the Y22s. One time he said, "Tumhare number nahi aa sakte kyunki mujhe tumhari shakal pasand nahi hai." Another time, a quiz was going on and some stupid guy was using Gemini; this single-digit IQ person wasn't chatting, he was talking with Gemini, and Kaishta and everybody heard, "How can I help you today?" After this, he was so angry that a closed-notes policy was adopted.

The MidSem Simulation Fiasco

Coming to the MidSem Simulation exam, the exam was scheduled to be conducted from 6:30 PM to 1:30 AM on February 20th, 2026 (mind the date). The exam was being conducted in NCL, and until 11:00 PM he was roaming around and everything was in order; nobody dared to do anything. After 11:00 PM he left, and since there was nobody to watch his TAs, they didn't give a damn about watching anybody. There was an open discussion among everyone; people cheated using their phones via HELLOiitk (they uploaded the solutions from their mobile phones and, since the test was conducted on HELLOiitk, they downloaded the files later on their exam systems).

Now, some people wrote emails to him regarding this, and quite a lot of emails were sent. After his own investigation, he adopted a policy that whosoever was flagged for using HELLOiitk on external IPs (meaning excluding IPs of systems in NCL) and webmail on any IP during the exam duration, their score (the lab exam was worth 10% of the aggregate marks) would be brought down to zero and they would be awarded -5% * (number of flags). Now imagine: in a course where the average hasn't crossed 12% until now, this happened. There was one guy - not just a regular guy, he is hardworking and disciplined who was awarded -70%, and mind you, he was flagged for using webmail that many times. One-fourth of the people dropped the course!

All the webmail users (excluding the HELLOiitk people, who were the real culprits) requested him to reconsider, saying this was a false flag and they didn't do anything. But he referred to all these people as "collateral damage." After that, it was found that the logs they had for webmail were not from February 20th, 2026; they were from one year before, on February 20th, 2025. Imagine taking a shit in 2025 and opening your webmail to check some random thing, only to nearly get an "F" in your DC one year later. Oh boy! What an obliterating experience.

The EndSem Simulation Struggle

Coming to the EndSem Simulation exam, it was going to be conducted on software named ASPEN Plus (the software is expensive, so the institute has limited licenses for it). A TA told everybody one day before that there would be two questions and you'd have to choose one of them. The first question would be from the lab sent this week (which you all had no idea about, as submission for that lab was optional) and the second question could be from what you had done all semester (including all compulsory lab submissions; note that absence from more than one lab attracts an F). Also, he mentioned, "You don't have the capability to do the second question," because this software is kind of hard to use and this semester we were somehow expected to master it from scratch (yes, we had courses using this software before, but it was like 0.0001% of what he was expecting).

On the day of the lab exam, exactly what the TA said happened, and people who didn't prepare for this last lab were crushed. Now, there were around 300 licenses and around 95 people in the course. He didn't order us not to use more than one license, so naturally, many idiots opened 5–10 files, which required that many licenses. Therefore, many systems were crashing (including mine). These people were given a chance, and Kaishta took their Viva the next week (poor peeps). I was sleeping in class when this happened and I didn't raise my hand among those people (Thank God, you saved me from him).

The Final Stretch

Last of all, the EndSem exam on May 4th from 5:00–8:00 PM. It was very hard and somehow it passed, but it still didn't end. After that, a TA messaged on the official WhatsApp group of 352: "Students who submit a professional report for the end-semester theory exam by 6:00 PM on the 6th will be eligible for up to an additional 10% bonus. The solution can be either handwritten or typed; both formats are acceptable." The solution had to be 100% correct to get the bonus.

People had 2–3 exams on the 6th and a DC exam on the 5th, so everybody begged him to extend the deadline, even for just six hours. In response, the deadline got reduced by one hour... LOL. I was awake all night on the 6th to submit the report, and after completing it, I slept around 9:00 in the morning. Later, I woke up around 4:00 PM to see the deadline had been extended to 8 at 11:00 AM (LOL), and it was also the day of the paper viewing. This still doesn't end (crying emoji).

On the 8th, the TA announced that you'd also have to give a Viva for your report to be considered, and Kaishta himself would take the Viva. Everybody was in fear. Also, when some people went to see their papers offline, it was announced that only typed reports would be accepted and handwritten reports wouldn't be considered. When people told him about what the TAs had announced, he said, "TA se number lelo." Everybody begged again (because the assumption was that these marks were freebies and would be given to everyone), but after that, it was announced that nobody in those three days could build a correct solution to Question 4. So, nobody's report was correct, and everybody got 0 marks in the 10% bonus (LOL).

I don't know why I said all this, I just felt like it. But I'm glad I passed (hopefully).

Edit: I don't understand how I forgot to mention this one thing: one time, a TA asked him a question in front of the whole class, so he said something like, "Sir iss column se nikalke ismein jayega," but in his Gujarati-accented English, he pronounced “column” as “coolumn,” replacing the usual short “o” sound with a long stretched “oo” sound, so the word came out sounding noticeably different from the standard pronunciation. He then repeatedly said “coolumn” to make fun of him in front of 95 B.Tech. students. Also, during some exam, a TA unknowingly did something wrong, and in front of me (I was sitting like few meters away), he started using very bad cuss words (can't say them here), and the TA saw me listening to the conversation and was genuinely feeling ashamed. Also, he abused students and said "TERI SHAADI NAHI HOGI" to one guy in front of all of the class.
Why did I mention all of this in the edit? To any person commenting that he is just a senior or whatever and trying to rag us in a different form, this form of behaviour from a senior professor and HOD at IIT Kanpur just isn't right. That's why I mentioned all of this, for people to know what's been going on. And as far as DOAA or complaints go, nobody can say anything to him; he is literally their "DADDY," and ICS is just a joke filled with brainless and dead people who get their validation by scking on hogs every night. It was just a message to never mess with him and just try to pass the course when it's your time to suffer.
