In this universe, when Dr. Frederick Vought defects to the Allied powers in 1944, he is assigned to recreate Project Rebirth. However instead of using the super soldier serum, he uses Compound V. He invites Captain America to volunteer, but Steve initially declines.

In 1945, after Bucky falls from the train and Hydra’s power continues to grow with the Tesseract, Steve changes his mind. Seeing that a few volunteers have successfully gained superpowers, he agrees to take Compound V and gains powers similar to Homelander.

Toward the end of The First Avenger, the Tesseract accidentally teleports Steve into the Arctic, where he becomes frozen in ice. He is later discovered by S.H.I.E.L.D.
