I notice so much invasive Himalayan Balsam when walking in my local area and usually rip up as much as I can when I pass by.

Would it be helpful to promote and encourage people to remove this plant when they see it? Or are there any unforseen negative consequences to this?

Also curious is there are any other invasive species that would be helpful for general public to remove (I’m thinking species that are not accidentally spread further through their removal, like ground elder)

I’ve become interested in the type of landlord there are - partly due to my own experience as a tenant with different types of landlords over the years.

According to government stats- in 2025, rough 45% of landlords only own one property and 83% count as small landlords (typically owning 1-2 properties). I’m really curious about these things:

  1. The subgroups of small landlords. Specifically how many own properties intentionally to run as a business versus those who end up renting out whilst living abroad, or inherit a property they can’t sell
  2. Profits - the average profit of these subgroups. I suspect the latter do not make much of a profit (after tax)
  3. To what extent the proportion of small landlords to landlord/companies owning many properties is changing (for example blackrock buying up buy-to-lets)

If anyone’s got any thoughts or stats I’d love to hear them!

Me and my partner are losing so much sleep. My cat is a 3 years old rescue, we have had him for about 6 months. He meows early hours of the morning then again around 5:30am after his automatic feeder. He has recently learnt to open the bedroom door and climb up the house to get in the bedroom window. He goes out at night from about 8pm most likely hunting but is hard to get moving during the day - he’s not interested in his toys and not enthused about attention.

I think he wakes me up for a mix of wanting more food (he could eat endlessly if given the choice) and wanting attention. If he gets int the room he usually gives very forceful headbuts and jumps on and off the furniture, sometimes deliberately getting himself stuck so we have to ‘rescue’ him.

What can be done to get him to sleep through the night? or at least be quiet and disturb us less. I really need decent sleep for health reasons. We can’t shut him downstairs due to where his cat flap is and lack of doors

I am renting out a flat and very new to being a landlord, so I opted for fully managed. The first tenant has moved out and caused a lot of damage. The estate agents didn’t do a property inspection and the tenant didn’t report anything so the damage at the time. i am currently having repairs done based on what was listed in the inventory- the contractor has just informed me the boiler is no longer working. With fully managed properties should things like this be added to the inventory by the estate agents? Or is it the landlords responsibility? Because I was unaware of this damage I cannot claim it on the deposit - so trying to get a better understanding of what should have happened
