Should I remove my potentially cracked second lower molar or have a root canal?

My F31 lower molar root is dead and I had an abscess which I got antibiotics for.

As I waited for the root canal, the abscess filled up again within a couple of weeks. Got another set of antibiotics.

Went to a specialist endodontist who measured how deep one of their tools has gone in between my tooth and gums, and said that it’s very likely cracked.

They said that they’d advise to remove the tooth. They could check if it’s not cracked but it would cost a fair bit and it’s most likely cracked. Equally, they said that a root canal could help for a bit, maybe a year, but because the tooth is likely cracked all the way, it would come back.

They basically said, save your money and just get it removed.

My concern is that I’m only 31… I’ve had a double jaw surgery due to an open bite and worried that losing that tooth is gonna let that whole effort go to waste.

I could afford the treatment but obviously I’d rather the money didn’t go to waste… I have all my other teeth.

Would really appreciate your thoughts and opinions!
