Pursuing Musical Theatre
Hello everyone, I am a current high school senior graduating soon and will go to university in the fall to study something completely unrelated to music. I never really considered studying music due to how competitive the job market is for music and musical theatre especially, but the closer I get to beginning my studies, the more I realize that it’s the only career I really belong in. Of course, now that I’m not headed off to a BFA program, I’ve made the process even harder than it would be normally to pursue this career.
Is it possible for me to still make it professionally? And by what route? If it’s relevant, I’m a Bass, though I can sing most baritone roles well and the ones I can’t I think will come with time as my voice continues to mature and I continue to expand my range. The main problem is that I haven’t gotten a strong A4 yet, which I understand is going to be a big problem for me in today’s MT scene. I consider myself a very strong singer, a pretty good actor and a not very good dancer.
I understand that pursuing this career would be difficult, but if you have any suggestions or could point me in the direction of any helpful resources for either getting started or diagnosing whether I should try, I would be grateful.
