Bank of America predicted Gen Z would be the richest generation by 2035

The Bank of America released a report last year - in it, they argued that despite Gen Z’s struggles to save money and a tough labor market, that Gen Z has a much higher wage growth than other generations have experienced. It claimed that by 2035, Gen Z would be “the largest and richest generation”.

But I feel like so much has changed over the last year - tariffs, Iran, growing unemployment. Does this report still hold up?

(Image for the algorithm, not sure why they’re predicting 2040 since this doesn’t appear on the report..)

“When the balance of your life becomes a topic, then you have a problem,” Ereño exclusively told Fortune. “You need to like your job, to not feel that your life needs to be balanced.”

Essentially, in his eyes, needing to separate work from life with a hard 5 p.m. cutoff doesn’t make sense when you genuinely love what you do. So if you’re constantly counting down the hours to the end of the day, it’s probably a sign that something fundamentally isn’t clicking.

Is he crazy or… is it uncomfortable because he’s right?

Stock pic for the algorithm so this gets seen lol. I’m a financial analyst - but also a new-ish parent. My son’s a year old and has been getting really sick a lot while in kindergarten. My husband’s an academic and works a lot so I have to pick up the slack.

I’m struggling to make it all work while going into the office. I know my boss would be responsive to me working from home - other colleagues do so for some of the week - but I’ve also been pushing for a promotion. The wage I make is about 15% lower than the average in this state for my role but I feel really aligned with the company and its culture and I’m eager to stay here. If I get promoted, I should be on a more reasonable wage.

In your experiences, can you still hustle for a promotion while working from home?

Completely wild story - Canadian guy let go from his last job in 2021, he took a break and learned some Spanish. Spent three years job hunting: zilch. In 2025, applied for a visa for a Spanish lang country (doesn’t specify which). His Spanish was really fluent at this point. In 2026, his visa went through. In the new country, 10 out of the 20 jobs he applied for gave him an interview. The companies that asked him for an interview were all American ones looking for cheap offshore labor - similar to the one who let him go. In the 3rd month of looking, got a job as a senior analyst - pays in USD! Says he’s living so much better in S.America making a US wage with lower cost of living.

Got a job in marketing at a startup - really wanted the role and they played hard ball on salary. I asked for $100K, they said they couldn’t push higher than $85K. But just read the Curbed article above (https://www.curbed.com/article/cost-of-living-nyc-calculator.html) and now I’m freaked out. Is it feasible to live in NYC on 85k? I assume I’d find a better job eventually but would like to be in this one for at least a couple of years for the experience.
