Hello!

I am writing this since I need some help making a decision.

I need to decide between buying an used AM4 PC vs building a new AM5 PC.

I am a programmer writing scripts in Python and need a 24/7 server for running: Financial models, Dashboards, Deployed bots, backtests, Monte Carlo simulations and in a few months, beginner Machine Learning loads using PyTorch, Sklearn, TensorFlow.

My needs are almost all CPU-heavy apart for the the ML stuff witch can utilize the GPU. Ideally I do want 64GB of Ram as an endgame for this platform.

I benefit from many cores as I do plan to be running many concurrent programs on this server which will serve as a monolithic machine, running everything.

  1. Now for the decision, I have found an used AM4 PC for: ~1070$ with this specs:

- CPU -> AMD Ryzen 9 5900x   12 cores 24 threads,

3.7Ghz base 4.8GHz boost clocks.

- GPU -> GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING OC LHR 10GB GDDR6X 320-bit

- RAM -> G.SKILL Trident Z RGB, 64GB(2x32GB) DDR4, 3600MHz CL16, Dual Channel Kit.

- Motherboard - > Asus ProArt B550-CREATOR (with 1 month warranty) link: https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/proart/proart-b550-creator/

- SSD -> Samsung 980 PRO 1TB PCI Express 4.0 x4 M.2 2280

- PSU -> EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2, 80 PLUS® Gold, 1300W, Fully Modular

-Case + AIO -> Some simple 360 mm AIO (with 1 year warranty) and a nice looking case, case link: https://www.montechpc.com/air-903-max

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  1. And I need help deciding between the used AM4 PC vs an AM5 PC which I can buy for ~1120$ (all parts are New) with this specs:

- CPU -> AMD Ryzen 9950x3D    16 cores 32 threads,

4.3 GHz base, 5.7 GHz boost clocks.

- GPU -> No GPU for now, I will wait and buy an used RTX 3090 in a few months for around ~780$, so no GPU in this budget.

- RAM ->  Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5 6000MHz, Dual Channel Kit.

- Motherboard -> ASUS TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI , link: https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/tuf-gaming/tuf-gaming-b850-plus-wifi/

- SSD -> A cheap gen3 NVME SSD from Intel which I already have (not factored in the price).

- PSU -> An used Seasonic 850W PSU for around ~110$.

- Case -> No case.  : )

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I need to say that I have a GTX 1650 GPU laying around which I can put in the AM5 system for now until I buy the RTX 3090. No need for GPU right now.

Once again i am interested in CPU power, so even for the AM4 PC, I will probably end up changing the Ryzen 9 5900x for a Ryzen 5950x in the future.

This won't be my PC as my main PC now has an Ryzen 7 3700x, it will be the server witch I can run 24/7 running simulations and all the other things I have mentioned.

I live in Romania (an Eastern European country)

So what do you guys think I should do, go for the AM5 system or stick with the used AM4 PC?

Any suggestions are more than welcomed! 😄

Thanks!
