Just want some clarification as it sounds like it doesn't make much sense at all. The Portal timeline/lore is a bit of a mess and all over the place but this is the first glaring plot hole I noticed if it is one.
We know that GLaDOS flooded the enrichment center with neurotoxin on the same day as Aperture had its 'Bring Your Daughter To Work Day', since all the kids' projects are still on display. Chell was one of these kids as her father was a scientist, and on her project there are two mentions of 'Mr. Johnson'...
Later in the game you hear Cave, while deathly ill, imploring the lab boys to look into artificial intelligence and brain mapping so that he can live on as a computer. He asks that Caroline be put in charge instead in the event that he would pass before then.
GLaDOS' existence would imply that Cave had already died, otherwise they wouldn't go through with putting Caroline in the machine. So Chell really shouldn't be mentioning Cave like he was still around.
What do you guys think? Is there an explanation for this?
