For context I’m 22F, and I’ve been a very heavy contact lens user for 5 years. I’ve been wearing acuvue oasys hydroluxe daily lenses basically everyday for 16h on average, and occasionally I’ve screwed up by sleeping in them (maybe less than 10 times in the past 5 years).
Recently I went to an optometrist (someone working at a glasses shop) for an eye check and they told me I have early stages of corneal neovascularization, which means my eyes aren’t getting enough oxygen. They said they saw small short blood vessels forming at the edges of my cornea. They told me not to be overly alarmed if I take the steps to reduce overwear and said I can still wear lenses with less daily wear time.
I was not aware of this risk until the eye check and now I am feeling quite stressed and worried for my eyesight and eye health, especially since my myopia has worsened moderately from my last eye check 5 years ago, and my degree is already very high to begin with.
I am now seriously considering scheduling an appointment with an ophthalmologist to confirm these new findings and also comprehensively check my overall eye health and myopia. From now on, I will also make sure to wear my lenses less than 12 hours a day, aiming for 10-11 hours ideally and wear glasses only when I’m at home.
Do you guys think the situation is serious? Or am I stressing too much? I will definitely reduce lens wear time daily from now on no matter the conclusion 😭😭
