Hello everyone,

I’m currently a CFI/CFII building hours toward my 1500, and I’m also in the PSA Cadet Program.

My question is: would it make sense for me to pursue a college degree in order to eventually get hired at American Airlines, or would upgrading to Captain at PSA and flowing through be enough on its own?

I already do have a decent amount a debt from my flight training but it’s not the worst. Taking out more money for college wouldn’t absolutely crush me but it would definitely hurt. Also PSA does give tuition reimbursement but I don’t know when or if I will even receive it.

I know American no longer requires a degree, but I’m curious what current pilots and people in the industry are seeing in today’s hiring environment. For those of you at the regionals or at American, do you think having a degree still makes a meaningful difference long term?

I’d appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thanks!

Hello everyone,

I recently received notice from PSA that they are moving forward with my application and will be scheduling an interview within the next month or two. I’m reaching out to see if anyone has insight into what the interview process is like.

I understand it will include technical and aviation-related questions in addition to discussing my background, so any advice or experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!
