Vampires in coffins, stake through the heart
I’ve been running some one-page dungeons as a solo game and found myself in the following scenario.
The map says coffins.
I think vampires.
They’re asleep.
Stake through the heart.
Destroyed easily.
But that’s way too easy, particularly after the second or third time. Especially solo with no players to bounce off.
Should I introduce risk like 1 in 6 chance of waking them due to noise?
While hitting a wooden stake with a wooden mallet is quieter than a metal equivalent, that might still be noisy in other ways.
The flesh puncturing (albeit undead flesh). The clank/rustle/squeak of armor, the jangle of backpacks, water skins sloshing around, metal things strapped to the backpack… the jangle of sacks filled with loot…
Do they turn to dust like they got Thanos-snapped? Do they explode in violent gory messes with a pop? Is there a supernatural screech of unholy energy? I suppose that’s very much down to referee fiat.
