I just finished my second half marathon and wanted to join a local social run club to keep my fitness up & meet new people. They emphasize being a “social club first, run club second” but is full of people in carbon plated shoes and wearing elite running clothing brands.

Now I know that running is unique to everyone but I was annoyed when I attended because though they have pace groups with a pacer, my group’s pacer was wildly faster than our pace range. As someone who was looking for a chill run post half, I found myself running essentially a tempo run to follow our pacer through the route.

Are runs clubs normally this intense? For reference, we were in the slowest pace group which was 11 mins/mile.
