Anyone else having any weird problems with the new DMV "abbreviation" system?
I went to the DMV a few months ago to change my license to add my motorcycle endorsement after I took the road test waiver class. They gave me a temp and told me the new one is coming in the mail.

I got my new one in the mail and it has what I think is a typo. So I email them a pic with the letter it came with. The letter has my street address correct. The ID itself does not. My street is "Booth Street" and they put "Both Street."

DMV got back to me to say that the new DMV computer system only allows 20 characters for that line. Ok fine then why not use ST instead of STREET or even a # instead of APT?
Apparently that's just the way it is.

Fast forward a couple months, I get a package slip in my mailbox from the USPS. I go to pick it up and they tell me I have to come back with a utility bill because my address doesn't match. I understand maybe abbreviating a long street name - but changing a street name from one dictionary word to another was probably a bad idea. And I don't want to have to carry around a utility bill everytime I go to the post office.

Has anyone sucessfully changed their license to change "Street" or "Avenue" to "St" or "Ave" so you can spell your whole street name? Or am I just asking way too much from the NYS DMV?
