Child Sexual Abuse Situation
I am aware that a child is being sexually abused and I'm hesitant to report it because she will likely end up in a worse situation if put in foster care (don't lecture me about how I'm wrong; I know a ton of former foster kids and most have been sexually abused in the system. I don't wanna hear it.)
I'd like input from someone familiar with the criminal justice system about what would likely happen if I make an anonymous tip to police with the following information:
What I know:
- I was shown CSAM against my will, found in the camera roll of a man I'll call John Smith (I have his real full name)
- An ex-partner of mine — with whom I'm no longer in contact — shares an iCloud account with him and showed me the video
- John has made sexually inappropriate remarks to me personally
- John told me, as if it were a funny misunderstanding, that he had sexual harassment complaints filed against him at Georgetown University (where he taught)
- Over the 5 years I knew him, there were many red flags I dismissed; the video makes clear they weren't dismissable
- The abuse is occurring somewhere in Washington, DC
The child's situation:
- Her legal guardians are her parents, who live abroad
- She lives in DC with her adult sisters; one sister is married to John Smith
- John, the child, and the child's four adult siblings all live together
Ideal outcome: John is prosecuted and imprisoned without the child being removed to foster care.
What would likely happen if I called the DC non-emergency police line? Would they even do anything with this information?
