Long story short. I have a gut feeling I’m getting fired. I’m going on a long vacation and will have very limited access to emails. Our firm is going through a lot of reorganization, and our finance department is very small. By taking time off during this change I might not be seen as a team player, but this PTO request has been approved for months prior to the reorganization. In fact, boss asked if I needed longer time. I haven’t received complaints from anybody but, did hear a side comment from the head of the firm during staff meeting that “suggested” I’m not doing enough. I’ve been asking my team what else I can help with in addition to what my current responsibilities are but, I always hear excuses. Eventually, I got tired of asking. I’ve been here for a little over 2 years. Had an exceed expectation performance review last year but didn’t get compensated for it. I thought if I try harder the following year, I’d be different, but I recently heard there will be no raises. I have a decent experience in the field, a little over a year in big accounting firm and over two years in corporate accounting. Am I making a big deal of the situation? Should I keep worrying about it? I haven’t had appetite for almost four days now, and have trouble sleeping. I feel nauseous about the situation. They are notorious for doing this to staff, letting go of them after coming back from a long time off with no heads up whatsoever. Work feedback at this firm means nothing. It’s about being liked. It’s silly.
I also noticed the new boss is always leaving the “check in” meetings all the time. Something always comes up or whatever excuse late. Boss drops all the time.
