First Year Teacher Rant
I’m a graduate teacher (primary) and I honestly just need to vent for a second.
I knew the first year would be hard. Everyone says that. But I’ve been given the difficult class in the cohort behaviour wise, and the difference between classes is MASSIVE. Even seasoned teachers have been trying to push for more support for me because they can see how complex some of the needs are in this class. I just can’t do this alone.
Some days it genuinely feels like I spend more time managing behaviour and documenting incidents than actually teaching.
It’s hard to even improve properly because most weeks feel like survival mode.
I’m trying really hard not to become negative about teaching because I really do care about the kids and I genuinely enjoy parts of the job. But I’m starting to understand why burnout happens so quickly and why so many teachers leave early.
Edit: Also, why give the difficult class to the first year? And why put these kids together in the first place despite their previous teachers flagging so many of them??
