I don't have perfect pitch and if I listen to music and don't know the pitch I hear the chord types and intervals but the exact pitches is sort of a cloud with no reference point, like it is in none or all keys at the same time.
If I get the pitch (piano, phone etc.) suddenly everything is clearer.
I have a theory that listening to music and not knowing the key reinforces against perfect pitch. And it would help a lot to quickly find the pitch of any music around you rather than listening in a vague cloud !
