How to Correct a NYC Birth Record Through a Court Order
I have been trying to get Dual Citizenship through my mother and was denied at the consulate because my mother's middle name that is apparently not her legal middle name, appears on my birth certificate but not on any of her documents.
I have been in contact with the Department of Mental Health and Mental Hygiene about amending my birth certificate to remove my mother's middle name from it. They denied my application after a month and said that I needed to get a New York Supreme Court order, which will cost around $3,000 to have a lawyer do it. I will keep you posted on the rest of the process. But so far it has been a nightmare.
Has anyone had any experience with this process? Was it very difficult? Did they do the process themselves or hire a lawyer? How long did it take you from start to finish?
